Chemical Anchor

Chemical anchors add greater strength and flexibility to mechanical fixings, often in concrete or masonry.

To use a chemical anchor, a hole is drilled into the substrate, a mechanical fixing is inserted and the chemical anchor seeps into all the crevices of the hole to create 100% contact between the mechanical fixing and the substrate, creating a very secure hold.

Substrates

Hollow or solid materials like brick, concrete, stone, masonry, some types of wood.

Chemical anchors offer the opportunity to significantly improve the performance and durability of fixings over and above that of mechanical fixings alone.

Using a chemical fixing along with the mechanical fixing creates 100% contact between the fixing and the substrate, spreading the load bearing capacity along the full length of the fixing and creating an even distribution of stress which minimises the risk of localised failure, thereby improving overall structural integrity.

In addition, they eliminate the need for perfectly drilled holes to ensure the performance of mechanical fixings alone. With a chemical anchor, the position of the mechanical fixing can be adjusted as the resin is hardening, in order to ensure that the correct alignment is achieved. Whilst some additional knowledge is required in the correct use of chemical fixings, this is a worthwhile investment due to the additional performance and durability benefits.
